Shivapuri Nagarjun
National Park
The
Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park (159 km) is located on the outskirts of the
Kathmandu Valley, about 12 km from the capital. In 2002, the area was
designated as the country's eighth national park. It was managed by the
Shivapuri Watershed Development Board before it was designated as a national
park, and later it was named the Shivapuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve.
The park is also a stopping point for trips to Nagarkot, Gosaikunda, Helambu and Langtang parks. The park has many Buddhist and Hindu sacred sites. At Baghdwar and Bishnudwar in the park, where the sacred Bagmati and Bishnumatii rivers originate, pilgrims from the Kathmandu Valley and the surrounding areas gather on the day of the Nepalese New Year, which takes place in mid-April. From the northern parts of the park, visitors can experience breathtaking views of the high Himalayas. The southern hills of the park offered stunning views of the Kathmandu Valley.
Sundarijal
Sundarijal is a place where you can enjoy waterfalls, lush green forests, endless trails for nature lovers, cycling and even canyoning. It is named after the Hindu goddess Sundarimai and is home to Krishna and Ganesh Mandirs (temples). Additionally, the dam built there has become an important source of water and electricity for the Kathmandu Valley, with the Sundarijal Hydropower station supplying water and power. A footpath is accessible from Sundarijal and you can walk for a few minutes to reach the waterfall. The peaceful and natural environment makes this place an attractive place close to Kathmandu valley.
Bishnu Dwar
One of Kathmandu's main rivers, the Bishnumati river, has its source in Bishnudwar. For Hindus and Buddhists, Bishnumati, or "Beloved Lord Bishnu", has deep religious and cultural significance. The journey to Bishnudwar, which is 1,950 meters above sea level, starts from Budhanilkantha, Kathmandu. It takes about 2-3 hours of travel to reach Bishnudwar, you will explore beautiful land, greenery, birds and butterflies, flora and fauna and waterfalls.
Baghdwar
The Baghdwar is about 1hr 30min above Nainki Gumba. It is a revered pilgrimage site for both Hindus and Buddhists, and there are various hermit caves, Buddhist sculptures, Shiva statues, as well as Shiva-linga and Naga stone cravings. It is a popular tourist destination near the Kathmandu Valley and a favorite day trip for many people to escape the busy city of Kathmandu. It can be a good place to go on a trip near Kathmandu where you can explore the beautiful mountains, greenery and waterfalls.
Jamacho Gumba
The Nagarjun Jamacho Gumba Trek is a short and sweet trek that is about three kilometers from Kathmandu. Formerly known as Nagarjun Forest, this area is now part of the Shivapuri Nagarjun National Park. Many visitors are attracted to Jamacho Gumba from the nearby Kathmandu valley by its beautiful location. The Nepal Army guards the Jamacho forest and wildlife, which are untouched, inspiring and fascinating and offer spectacular views of the Himalayas and the Kathmandu Valley, as well as a variety of flora and wildlife.
