Short Treks from Kathmandu

In fact, there are many such places near the Kathmandu Valley, where you can fully enjoy it in a short time. The Kathmandu Valley between the mountains is a plain filled with millions of houses and millions of people. It is quite surprising to say that such a bustling city hides many amazing places. From the east to the north, everyone can leave you in awe at least for a few seconds. These treks are easy to access and most do not require a permit. Also, anyone can do these short treks, regardless of age and gender. We would say that these treks are just the perfect starting point for beginners.

1. Nagarkot

About 32 kilometers northeast of the capital city, Kathmandu, lays the beautiful Nagarkot that reflects the warm landscape of snow-capped mountains in the sky. As the sun rises, the surroundings are filled with beauty and dazzling views of Mount Everest and other mountains. The glimmering valleys and the plains appear momentarily bright when the sun is at its right angle.

2. Kakani

Less than an hour's drive from Kathmandu comes Kakani, roaring with pride for its unique culture and heritage. This place is in a quiet location in the middle of Tamang village. As millions of hotels and guest houses are waiting to serve you delicious Japanese trout and local rooster, you will be surprised by their hospitality. The falling mountains are turned into a landscape for agriculture, which looks not only to the eye but also to the camera. You can also see different kinds of birds playing in the wind. When the weather is clear, you can also view the Langtang Moraine from the top of Kakani.

3. NamoBuddha

NamoBuddha is one of the attractions that offer an amazing view of the mountain panorama in a short time. Its unique architecture and soul-cleansing rituals provide a peaceful retreat for meditation and holy water. Also, the story behind the NamoBuddha Monastery is fascinating.

Once upon a time, there was a prince who went hunting in the royal palace. While walking in the forest, he saw a tiger lying on the ground with its cubs begging for their mother's life. Consumed by this love, the prince cut off the flesh and let the tiger feed on his fresh blood and flesh. He sacrificed himself for the life of a tiger. Later, when the king went to look for the prince, he found the body of his son. He buried his body in the same place. After that, a temple was built in memory of such a good man.

4. Chandragiri

Chandragiri is also one of the naturally beautiful places near Kathmandu and can be enjoyed in a short time. The top of Chandragiri Mountain offers a breathtaking view of the mighty Mount Everest, Mount Api, and countless other peaks. The green Chandragiri hills are another beautiful feature that complements the beauty of Chandragiri.

Historical legend says that the legendary Prithvi Narayan Shah, a Nepalese emperor, thought he would conquer the kingdom of Kasthamandap (now Kathmandu Valley) when he saw the valley from the top of Chandragiri Hills.

5. Phulchowki

Phulchowki (literally translated as Flower Mountain) is the highest point in the Kathmandu valley, which is also a wonderful place to see some beautiful views of the Himalayan.

Apart from these, it is well known for its beautiful botanical garden, which is decorated with fragrant and attractive flowers. Hindus have a spiritual relationship with this place; hence, hundreds of pilgrims come to Phulchowki just to keep the religious spirit high.

6. Chisapani

Chisapani (meaning "cold water") is one of the best trekking routes outside of the Kathmandu Valley. During the treks, you will enter the fragrant rhododendron forest for about 5 hours before emerging at the beautiful mountain of Chisapani. From here, you will be able to see different landscapes, each of which can take your breath away for a while.

7. Dhulikhel

You will never get enough of the beautiful mountain views. There is something about the beautiful serenity of mountain views that makes you want to stay there forever and breathe in the fresh air. Dhulikhel in the Kathmandu valley is one such place, which offers a beautiful view of the Himalayas and the peaks that it includes, from Langtang Lirung in the west to Dorje Lakpa, Gauri Shankar and Melungtse, and Numbur in the east place. You just have to climb a little above the village to enjoy these panoramic views. Another popular tourist attraction here in Dhulikhel is the mountain bike trip from Dhulikhel to Namobuddha which is one of the most popular activities for tourists.

8. Lakuri Bhanjyang

Lakuri Bhanjyang, a hill station on the eastern edge of Lalitpur, is 15 kilometers from the Kathmandu Valley, which is one of the most popular places to see beautiful cities in Nepal such as Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur. It is a great picnic spot and recently opened for paragliding, so it is also a great place for adventurous lovers. The people of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur often have a picnic on this ground with a 360-degree panoramic view.

9. Champadevi

Visit Champa Devi Hill and hike to the top of one of the highest hills in the Kathmandu Valley. Located at a height of 2,278 meters, Champa Devi is the third-highest hill in the valley. It is named after Champa Devi, the presiding goddess of the mountains who protects the forest and its surroundings. A temple dedicated to the goddess sits on top. There are also Buddhist monasteries. Located in the south of the capital, one can enjoy a beautiful view of the Kathmandu valley by following the Champadevi trail. In autumn and winter, travelers get beautiful views of the Himalayan Mountains. Gauri Shankar, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, etc. are some of the highest mountains that can be seen from the top of the hill on a clear day.

10. Ranikot

Ranikot is one of the best one-day treks 15 kilometers away from Kathmandu. Offering a beautiful view of the mountains, the farm buildings, and the beautiful scenery of the Nepalese countryside are the main attractions of Ranikot. Not only that, you can have a beautiful view of Kathmandu valley from Raikot.
